Right guys...im gonna open a can of worms here. This thread is about a tabboo subject, that can cause disputes. Thats why whatever is said in here, stays in here. If there is too much hate going on, i will ask 87 to lock this thread...
Right, here it goes....Religion.
I am a firm non-believer. However, i respect those with beliefs. I feel its good to have something to believe in. So, what about you guys?
*hides in corner, waiting for s***storm....*

Most of my relatives are strong bornagains. My Mother, Father and Sister are open, they do not commit and do not dismiss. I am strongly against it for several reasons...The main one: God is used as an excuse.

Oh dear, this may cause a storm. I would type out all the deep conversations I've had with myself about the subject, but I've come to the conclusion that God probably does not exist in the form we think of him as, if he's there at all. After all, a few thousand years ago the Egyptians and Greeks would swear by their Gods as strongly as we swear by ours, so who says we're right? I see religion mostly as a really long-lasting fad. Therefore, I am Atheist until proven otherwise. However, I don't really oppose religion and can see why a lot of people find it comforting. I'd absolutely love to believe there's heaven and hell, believe me. But I don't want that to be a false hope, so I'd rather just steer clear. The only time I don't like religion is when people shove it in your face. >.> But most reasonable people don't.

In my mind, religion is a myth. As good as the greek, norse, roman, egyptian, or any other myth. It is merely modern. @nekoaa wow, exactly how i feel ^^ @fisheh....im not even gonna try to talk sense into that.....
The qu'ran has never been proved wrong, the torrah (spelling...?) has never been proved wrong, the egyptian tales of Osiris and Set's rivalry arent proved wrong, the recording of the norse end of the world and death of most of the gods, Ragnarok, isnt proved wrong. Toy story hasnt been proved wrong....can u see my point...?

Religion is just the fallback for people who don't know what do to anymore. In my opinion at least. Now, my family is split between Catholic on my mother's side and Protestant on my dad's side. I live with my mother and ever since she got a divorce with my dad, she's stopped going to church and stuff. Now I'm not certain but divorcing is bad for Catholics, right? Maybe she's lost her faith in it or something since things didn't work out between her and my dad.
Personally I like to think the big bang happened because some omnipotent guy either sneezed or threw up his lunch, looked down and was like "huh, this could work" and let the world run itself. He turned on the switch for life and was all "so I did all the 'hard' work, you guys can take care of the rest" Alternatively female omnipotent person works too. Heck, it could be an antro-cat for all I care. Just SOMETHING that obviously doesn't care about humans let people roam on their own.
Humans are THE ONLY species that goes out of it's way to kill members of it's own kind. Sure you can argue animals fight over territory, but that is to raise their family in a place that has the best resources. Humans kill each other over beliefs, appearance, stupid reasons that have nothing to do with the bare nessecities for survival. And religions have the gall to call our species /special/?

Wow koi, that's full of win you make a lot of sense there i reckon, that if there is any kind of god, then it's like koi says, he just started things off. I still highly doubt that that is even the case however, it is much more in my beliefs that there was simply a massive expansion, no "person" to make it

D87 and Fisheh, Yeah, I want to read that too. I also agree with Fusion, just because something hasn't been proved wrong doesn't mean it's right. If I told you there was a giant invisible spaghetti monster that took people into the afterlife when they died, well, there's no way to prove it wrong is there? Also at Fusion and Koi, there is an old religion for that. It's called Deism, I think. *Google* Yeah, here it is. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deism

Btw I've just found another reason to be against religion...Jahova's Witnesses... They can be so freaking annoying, I had a mother and daughter come to my door this morning whilst hanging with my sister and mate. We we're just playing some video games when they came knocking at the door. I opened the door and looked at them quizically. They said they were Jahova's Witnesses straight away. I simply said no thank you and closed the door. Now I can't really blame them for standing under shelter when it was windy and rainy as heck but when they knocked on the door again to try their luck...I said no and locked it. I also stared at them till they went away.
