I'm thinking of starting a side-project during my programming class (since normally I'm on here anyway during that time) and making a textRPG, but I've got no ideas for a story/battle system (I was thinking computer rolls generic dice for you maybe)/characters/plot/everything really. Halp? Else it'll probably something silly and retarded like "koifish goes grocery shopping!" EDIT: ...I'm half-certain this could have gone under "PC Gaming" instead of "General" my bad....

Lol *Moves* anywho you could make it like dungeons and dragons like you say something and then the computer rolls the dice to see if you're successful. Just an Idea. :3

Classic text based adventure? sure, i'll help, if i can..... so, u got any idea for the setting? like, is it gonna be the classic "you are in a field" etc., medieval stuff, or are u open to other suggestions? like, in my english class, i tend to write basic sci-fi short stories all these youngsters, they dont know what made the first games great PS how u gonna make it? are they teaching u in computing? i guess it cant be hard, ppl used to make them all the time on the Commador 64.... (points if ppl know what that is xD )

Geez you guys, with your silly bloody graphics and live interaction *rolls eyes* A classic textRPG can be made great if the writer knows what they're doing, it'd be like those choose your own adventure books with tons of different endings (plus loopholes/errors in my coding) I'm totally open to sugguestions, sci-fi sounds kinda cool though I've never written any in that genre. Well I'm gonna use BlueJay, it's a java-based program with really simple commands, I'll just write out each paragraph or whatever as a method, and your choice (probably an inputted number) would take you to a different method. Save states would be indicated by a variable that takes the name/number of the method you're on and holds it until you need it should you get lost, make a wrong choice, die, whatever. I'm not exactly sure how you'd be able to save if you closed the window/terminated the program and tried to resume the game. Also: Thanks for the move

lol, glad someone knows that graphics etc. aren't the only thing that makes a good game Those "choose ur own" books are quite good, only really finished one tho xD I'll have a think about a basic setting, and write back if i think of anything good Ps, if it's a java based game, i wouldn't think it'd be too hard to add saving, but i dunno

Aha yeah I've got myself one or two, I haven't ever been able to truthfully get a good end on either of them though. And I'm sure that if I used Byond (although I'm not familiar with their coding) I could use /some/ graphics, like a title page and a background that changed based on your surroundings, with a separate black area for the text to go.

Hmm, like some of the later, picture/text based ones. Then it may catch the attention of these young technolgical hooligans xD
