Okay, so since I've seen some stuff around about ROMs again, I've decided to slightly alter the policy. You can TALK about ROMs, but please do not link to any websites or files containing them, as these are illegal. You can also create ROMs, as I understand these are very popular and attempt at being original through the use of fake Pokemon. I have no problem with these. However, all ROMs of existing games from Nintendo cannot be linked to. However, if the game is not out yet in all regions (namely, as of now Black and White), then ROMs to these games and these games only may be posted. When the games are released in the US (which is usually around when they are released in other English-speaking countries) then all threads pertaining will be locked and further posts with ROMs in them will be treated as illegal content.
Basically, you can make fake games and talk about ROMs, but you can't actually link to them unless they're not out yet. Thank you.

I thought ROMs were legal if you owned the game yourself and like... It's internal battery died or something :/ I have a original Silver and Yellow version ROM cause both of mine refuse to turn on anymore ;-;

What are Nintendo ROMS? A Nintendo ROM ("Read Only Memory") is the type of chip used in Nintendo's video game cartridge which contains the game software. However, this term is commonly used on many gaming sites on the Internet and refers to game data that was copied from an authentic Nintendo video game cartridge. What is a Nintendo Video Game Emulator? A Nintendo emulator is a software program that is designed to allow game play on a platform that it was not created for. A Nintendo emulator allows for Nintendo console based or arcade games to be played on unauthorized hardware. The video games are obtained by downloading illegally copied software, i.e. Nintendo ROMs, from Internet distributors. Nintendo ROMs then work with the Nintendo emulator to enable game play on unauthorized hardware such as a personal computer, a modified console, etc. Can I Download a Nintendo ROM from the Internet if I Already Own the Authentic Game? There is a good deal of misinformation on the Internet regarding the backup/archival copy exception. It is not a "second copy" rule and is often mistakenly cited for the proposition that if you have one lawful copy of a copyrighted work, you are entitled to have a second copy of the copyrighted work even if that second copy is an infringing copy. The backup/archival copy exception is a very narrow limitation relating to a copy being made by the rightful owner of an authentic game to ensure he or she has one in the event of damage or destruction of the authentic. Therefore, whether you have an authentic game or not, or whether you have possession of a Nintendo ROM for a limited amount of time, i.e. 24 hours, it is illegal to download and play a Nintendo ROM from the Internet. How Does Nintendo Feel About the Emergence of Video Game Emulators? The introduction of emulators created to play illegally copied Nintendo software represents the greatest threat to date to the intellectual property rights of video game developers. As is the case with any business or industry, when its products become available for free, the revenue stream supporting that industry is threatened. Such emulators have the potential to significantly damage a worldwide entertainment software industry which generates over $15 billion annually, and tens of thousands of jobs. Source: www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jspAnywho, as long as the game you own ex: Heart Gold was damaged or lost you can have ROM of the game. Or as Nekoaa said if the games haven't come out in the US. Then you can spoil it for yourself.

But all the sprites are still copyrighted. If you use ANYTHING from the Pokemon games and try to make money off it, they will sue your ass. However, most people don't try to sell it. So I don't mind the fan-games much.

@demon uh, yeah. ._. as long as it's not directly copied, it's ok, although if they notice enough similarities I think they sue anyway. @d87 XD I know! I guess they just didn't bother.

No, the rule says try not to one word post, but you can if you feel that adding more than one word would be pointless...
